Thanks to Walter Beech and Clyde Cessna, Wichita is also called the “Air Capital of the World.” In the late 1920s and early 30s aircraft companies Cessna, Beech, Mooney, and Stearman all got their start in Wichita. As recently as 2006, Money Magazine rated Wichita as #9 on a list of the top 10 big cities in which to live in America. In addition, MSN Real Estate named Wichita, Kansas as the #1 most affordable city in the country.
