It is the unspoiled landscape of Mauritania that draws most tourists, possessing as it does over seven hundred and fifty kilometres of undeveloped coastline as well as the mighty sweep of the Sahara – home to Mauritania's nomadic tribes who have wandered this hot and desolate landscape for centuries. Between the desert and the coast lies the Senegal River, which provides enough arable land for the agriculturalists who eke out a living of subsistence farming and small profit crops.
