Halifax Flights - A short guide. Halifax is not only the capital of the maritime province of Nova Scotia but is also core of Atlantic Canada’s commerce. Across the Bedford Basin from its twin Dartmouth, Halifax is on a natural harbour so large it is bested only by that of Sydney, Australia. North America’s oldest yacht club can be found along the 16km (10mi.) shore of Halifax Harbour. Crossing the harbour can be done by way one of the two toll bridges, and a trip to Dartmouth is easy via the ferry connecting the two cities. Founded by the British in 1749, a move made in hopes of strengthening their North Atlantic presence, Halifax still shows traces of Britain’s military influence. The waterfront is lined with beautiful stone and wood buildings that hold historical significance. Attracting tourist and locals alike, the waterfront is a great place to go do a bit of shopping, enjoy the vibrant nightlife or have pleasant meal. An enjoyable stroll can be had along one of the many walking paths, through various parks or along the beaches. Hang around the Citadel at noon and witness the ceremonial preparation and firing of the noon gun then visit the Shubenacadie Canal and watch the workings of the lock
