Fuerteventura Flights - A short guide. Just off the coast of Africa , you'll find the Canary archipelago. Along this string of islands is Fuerteventura, the second largest island. Sharing the same latitude as other popular vacations spots like Florida, this island also has the same climate. What Fuerteventura doesn't share with Florida is population, making it an exceptional place to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy city life. With over 100 beaches to welcome you, some in virtual seclusion, a tranquil vacation filled with relaxing moments is assured. With a landscape dominated by drying volcanoes and few amenities, there is admittedly little to attract visitors, except perhaps, the lack of visitors. If quiet walks along deserted beaches are what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed. For the most part the island is frequented by island hoppers from Lanzarote or Gran Canaria. It is much coveted by those looking to skirt loud crowds. With the airport at the island's capital of Puerto del Rosario, transport by air is made quick and easy, or you may prefer a ferry ride over. Once there, many make their way to Caleta del Fuste or Carralejo, two major resort towns. To the south, you'll find the Jandia peninsula. White sandy beaches surround almost the entirety of the nature reserve there. At Barlovento to the west, you'll find untamed beaches with few visitors. Swimming can be dangerous on these beaches, but strolling along the beach is a treat. Head to the east and find over 10 miles, or 20 kilometres, of sandy coast which is home to two resorts; Costa Calma which is not far from Playa de Sotavento and Morro Jable.
