Falkland Islands Flights - A short guide.

Known for the war Argentina and the UK waged over the islands, the Falklands, or Islas Malvinas, remain under British Rule, thanks to Margaret Thatcher’s strong will.

The world’s spotlight has again returned to the Falklands, this time on a lighter note. Seems the peculiar behaviour demonstrated by the Penguin population as jets fly overhead has people talking. An urban legend has surfaced claiming the flightless birds are stumbling and teetering over every time a plane passes. Apparently this is due to their attempt to keep their eyes on the fast flying bird above.

Aside from being heavily populated by penguins, sheep also take up a great portion of the islands’ inhabitants. Human beings on the other hand are considerably few.

As the capital of the Falkland Islands, Stanley is an excellent starting point for any visit. With many resemblances to an English village like its Government House and fish and chips shops, the city offers museums, memorials, cathedrals and a host of shopping opportunities. Several historic buildings are of note. If shipping is more to your fancy the harbour with its shipwrecks and steam vessels might interest you.

Make the easy trip to Cape Pembroke where you can board a boat and cruise around Stanley Harbour. A drive to Darwin can lead you to the Argentine Cemetery, the Old Dain Cemetery or the Colonel H. Jones memorial. Flight Lieutenant Nick Taylor’s grave can also be found here as well as a memorial to the Parachute Regiment. While there, take the time to make your way across a suspension bridge.
