Edmonton Flights - A short guide.
Capital of Alberta, a Canadian province, Edmonton is located on North Saskatchewan River amidst the prairies’ fertile farmlands. In Alberta, it is second only to Calgary when it comes to size, and is sixth on Canada’s list of large metropolitan areas.
Boasting connected urban parkland that stretches longer than that of any other in North America, the river valley is 22 times the size of Central Park in New York City. Edmonton is also the highest ranking city with regards to square metres of parkland per capita.
Parks vary widely in style while offering a unique means of escape. You can find a fully serviced park that will meet all your needs, or more simplistic parks with few amenities. Included in the 111 square kilometres (27,400 acres) of parkland are a great number of neighbourhood parks in the city. Along the 25kms (16mi.) of the River Valley Park System you’ll find 22 major parks, 11 lakes and 14 ravines.
The city also offers a variety of biking paths and walking trails. Walking along these trails means you are on a section of the Waskahegan, a 235km (146mi.) wilderness trail that snakes through and around Edmonton. Five of the parks in the River Valley Parks System have been named in honour of the five valiant Canadian women who stood up to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1927, better known as “The Famous Five”.
